About Main
Main Management is a San Francisco-based, 100% partner-owned and independent asset manager and one of the early pioneers of ETF portfolio management, building portfolios from ETFs since 2002. We manage $5.6 billion in assets for financial advisors, institutions, family offices, and private clients (as of June 30, 2026).
Our approach is fundamental with a catalyst — valuation tells us where to look, and a catalyst tells us when to act. The team monitors more than 450 macro, fundamental, and sentiment indicators daily across four core strategies — Active Sector Rotation, BuyWrite, International Country Rotation, and Thematic Innovation — each available as an ETF, alongside a family of risk-based All Asset portfolios.
Being partner-owned shapes how we work: the team is small enough that the investment and research group is directly reachable, and the people who make decisions are the ones you work alongside.
The role
You join Main’s Research group for the summer, supporting the investment team and the Custom Model Portfolio Team with hands-on analytical work.
What you would do
- Support the construction and maintenance of custom model portfolios for financial advisors
- Portfolio analytics: allocation, risk, fee, and overlap analysis on advisor portfolios
- Fund and manager research supporting the team’s due diligence work
- Data work: maintaining and quality-checking the datasets behind our research and client materials
- Sit in on team meetings and investment discussions
What we are looking for
- Current undergraduate, graduating December 2027 or later (rising seniors preferred)
- Quantitative and analytical coursework — finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or similar
- Strong aptitude using AI tools — ideally beyond a chat window (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar)
- Genuine interest in markets and investing
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning repeatable processes end-to-end
