Rusty Vanneman

Rusty Vanneman is a widely respected investment strategist and executive with over 35 years of experience in the financial industry. Throughout his career, Rusty has held significant leadership positions, including Chief Investment Officer and Chief Investment Strategist at prominent firms such as Orion Wealth Management, CLS Investments, and Kobren Insight Management. 

He has also worked with financial advisors, helping them navigate complex market environments and deliver tailored investment solutions to their clients. Rusty’s strategic approach integrates disciplined investment processes with insights from behavioral finance, designed to enhance advisor effectiveness and increase clarity and confidence in investment decisions.

Having known Kim Arthur for more than a decade, Rusty Vanneman joins Main with comprehensive knowledge of our strategies, investment process, and the emphasis placed on client servicing. He has extensive prior experience in the ETF space, with some of his team’s industry accolades including ETF.com’s ETF Investor of the Year and WealthManagement.com’s ETF Strategist of the Year. His background working in different roles within the financial industry positions him uniquely to support and advance advisor relationships, enhancing the Client First, Exceptional Service philosophy prioritized here at Main. 

A native of Valentine, Nebraska, Rusty is a graduate with High Distinction from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Market Technician (CMT), and Behavioral Financial Advisor (BFA™) designations. He is the author of Higher Calling: A Guide to Helping Investors Achieve Their Goals. Rusty has also hosted two popular podcasts: Orion’s weekly The Weighing Machine and the monthly Weighing the Risks, and plans to continue his podcasts with a weekly podcast sponsored by Main Management.

 

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rusty is a dedicated husband and father, avid hiker and paddleboarder, and early in his career, even worked on a cattle ranch. He is actively involved in community and mentoring efforts.
